The AMT0170 Protective Sleeve is a soft, sacrificial barrier that locks our 300-Series wrenches in place, allowing you to safely apply all the torque needed (think 5 foot pipe on the end of your breaker bar) without fear of tool "kick out."

The most frustrating (and expensive) mistake you can make when rebuilding a trim unit is having your pin wrench slip under heavy torque. When a tool "kicks out," it can shear the pins and gouges the aluminum cap. The Marine Tech AMT0170 Protective Sleeve is our solution to this problem, ensuring your wrench stays locked perfectly flat against the cap no matter how hard you pull your breaker bar.
How the Sacrificial System Works
This sleeve does not work alone, it is the second half of our 300-Series removal system. Here is the step-by-step physics of why it works so well:
- The Setup: Insert your 300-Series pin wrench into the trim cap. Then, place the AMT0170 sleeve directly over the top of the wrench.
- The Sacrificial Barrier: Use the manual release valve to gently lower the outboard engine directly onto the sleeve. Because the AMT0170 is made from a soft, durable material, it acts as a sacrificial cushion, transferring the weight of the motor onto the wrench.
- The Removal: With the weight of the outboard holding the wrench on the cap. You can now apply all the torque needed, even with an extension on a breaker bar. It is physically impossible for the wrench to slip out of the holes.
